Boisterous British icon Mike Skinner is bringing THE STREETS to Australian shores in 2026 performing the landmark 2004 album A Grand Don’t Come For Free for the first time in full. The charismatic hypeman and storyteller will bring the multi-platinum, era-defining album to Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth in March 2026.
Originally released in 2004, A Grand Don’t Come For Free remains one of the most important and influential British albums of the 21st century. Entering the UK charts at No.1, the record went multi-platinum and delivered era-defining singles including “Dry Your Eyes”, “Fit But You Know It”, and “Blinded By The Lights”. It cemented Skinner as one of the UK’s most original and vital voices, capturing the humour, heartbreak and raw emotion of everyday life with rare poetic clarity.
Heading to some of the nation’s finest venues, the tour will start in Adelaide at Hindley Street Music Hall, then to the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, on to Melbourne’s Palace Foreshore with the final stop at Fremantle Arts Centre in WA. The Brisbane venue will be announced in the coming weeks.
Breaking through in 2002 with Mercury Prize nominated Original Pirate Material, bringing us tracks like “Has It Come To This?”, THE STREETS’ impact on UK culture and music can still be felt to this day.
Multiple albums later, and a hiatus in 2011, THE STREETS’ comeback tour in 2017 sold out in less than a minute, a testament to their lasting impact across generations of music lovers. Their 2023 album The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light marked Mike Skinner’s return with a full-length project that melds his signature spoken-word lyricism with cinematic storytelling.
An inimitable live performer with bountiful experience both behind the decks and on the microphone, Mike Skinner has collaborated with a who’s who of British music – from IDLES to Fred Again, as well as Australia’s beloved Tame Impala. Skinner is renowned for his undeniable onstage presence, quintessentially British tongue-in-cheek attitude and ability to grip audiences from crowded basements to Glastonbury headline slots.
This tour marks the first time The Streets will perform A Grand Don’t Come For Free in its entirety, giving fans a chance to experience the full story exactly as it was intended: a cinematic journey through love, loss, chaos, heartbreak and hope, delivered with Skinner’s trademark raw honesty and wit.
