The old white mansion in Gunnersbury Park is in one of our favourite films, The Lavender Hill Mob, so we thought we’d bring the Eastern Esplanade mob and some spiky guitars to that Arcadian glade in West London for a a good ol’ homecoming knees up. Look forward to seeing you there, along with our friends Supergrass, Soft Play, Hak Baker, Lambrini Girls and Real Farmer. Love Peter, Carl, Gary and John X – The Libertines
THE LIBERTINES arrived in the late nineties like a raging bull in a tired post-Britpop china shop and introduced the world to a new gang of London bohemians, whose ragged tunes, red military tunics, opiated poetry and ‘live now pay never’ lifestyle came to define the millennial angst of the early noughties. At the heart of the band is the blood bond bromance between the ramshackle Peter Doherty and Carl Barât, ably assisted by the rock-solid rhythm twins John Hassall and Gary Powell.
The Libertines released their new album, ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade,’ in April this year, which saw them racing to No. 1 in the UK album chart for the second time. The album, their fourth, saw the quartet gather from their new-found homes variously in France, Denmark, Margate and London, to scale new creative heights. Now the four-piece will come together once again in the capital as they play a mammoth homecoming show at London’s Gunnersbury Park next summer.
Since their formation in Oxford in 1993, SUPERGRASS have become one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. Their debut album, ‘I Should Coco’, skyrocketed to No. 1 in the UK, selling over a million copies worldwide and featuring the smash hits ‘Alright’ and ‘Caught by the Fuzz’. The band, comprised of Gaz Coombes, Mick Quinn, Danny Goffey, and Rob Coombes, have garnered critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including a Brit Award and an Ivor Novello Award. With six top 10 albums and ten top 20 singles, Supergrass remain a cultural force, 30 years after their debut. Fresh off the back of a sold-out, 30th anniversary tour for their seminal debut album, the four-piece will bring a performance filled to the brim with greatest hits to Gunnersbury Park.
We are so pleased to be involved in the Gunnersbury Park gig with The Libertines and all the other great bands playing on the night. Gunnersbury Park is a really amazing venue to see bands perform. We first played with The Libertines 22 years ago back in 2002 when we took the fledgling band on tour with us. Wow… time flies when you’re having fun. See you there! – Danny Goffey of Supergrass
Joining them on the day are SOFT PLAY, the British punk duo made up of Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman, HAK BAKER, an East End troubadour swiftly becoming one of the most respected and reverent British artists of his generation, Brighton punk duo LAMBRINI GIRLS and Dutch DIY, garage punk outfit REAL FARMER.
